Presleep Breathing and Music on Sleep Quality
Deep Sleep & Light sleep
This research study investigated the effects of presleep slow breathing and music listening on sleep quality in young adults. Using polysomnography, researchers measured sleep parameters and EEG activity after participants engaged in either a 30-minute slow breathing exercise or listened to relaxing music, comparing these to a control condition. While both interventions increased heart rate variability, neither consistently improved overall sleep quality. However, music listening showed a trend towards less N2 and more N3 sleep, while slow breathing increased delta power during N3 sleep. The study's findings, though exploratory, warrant further investigation with larger, more diverse populations.
